Borough Museum and Art Gallery, Newcastle-under-Lyme (Newcastle Museum) Hints & Tips 1
This is a general museum and art gallery with wide-ranging collections covering most collection categories (although its natural science holdings are minimal). Its main focus is on the history of the Borough from the earliest times. The displays include traditional showcased presentation and a street of Victorian shops. Hints & Tips 2
The collection covers archaeology, arms & armour, costume and textile, decorative & applied art, fine art, numismatics, oral history, photographic, science & industry, social history. Materials included in the collection are manuscripts and books, weapons, costumes and accessories, embroideries, ceramics, medals, oral history recordings, photographs, toys (in particular, dolls). There are examples of the work of local craftsmen Samuel Bell, Henshall Moss and Thomas Wood (ceramics) and Francis Chamberly and John Beech (clocks). Hints & Tips 3
The fine art collection is largely local material and is based on the Joseph Mayer Bequest. The Numismatics section is based on the Hawley collection of military medals of the 18th to 20th century period. Hints & Tips 4

Opening hours are: Monday to Saturday: 10.00am to 5.30pm, Sunday 2.00pm to 5.30pm. Closed Good Friday, Bank Holiday Mondays (except Spring Bank Holiday Monday) and 25th December to 1st January. Admission is free, with free coach and car parking. There is ground floor access for disabled people and a stair-lift to the first floor. The Museum welcomes school groups and other organised parties. Groups are advised to book visits in advance. Hints & Tips 7
The Pomona Collection consists of a range of glazed and unglazed red earthenware, porcelain and creamware. It contains around 200 items made between 1724 and 1754. People associated with the collection are Samuel Bell, William Steers and Joseph Wilson. Hints & Tips 9
