Walsall Local History Centre

The Centre is the archive repository and local studies library of Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council Hints & Tips 5 and as such accepts donations and deposits of film/video material which relates to the local area. Film is transferred to video for easier access by researchers. This is only a small collection which does not represent a large part of the overall holdings of the Centre. Hints & Tips 1

A qualified conservator is on the staff. There is no separate, specific policy on film and video. Material can be viewed on the premises. There are duplicating facilities and tapes can be copied for sale. Prices are by arrangement and copyright advice is available. Hints & Tips 2

A printed, indexed catalogue is available, as is the Handlist for Accessions 1972-1998 and annual reports Hints & Tips 3. Access is available Tue and Thur 09.30 – 17.30, Wed 09.30 – 19.00, Fri 09.30 – 17.00, Sat 09.30 – 13.00. There is access for disabled people.

Current video holdings are 16 VHS professional, 1 U-matic professional, 19 VHS amateur and 1 U-matic amateur cassettes. Current film holdings are 1 reel 35mm professional, 10 cans 16mm professional, 5 films, 2 sound tracks, 12 reels 9.5mm amateur B+W, 7 reels Super 8mm amateur colour. Archive repository conforms to BS 5454 and is air-conditioned and fitted with halon gas fire extinguishing system Hints & Tips 4.
