Sharing Made Simple: A Practical Approach To Social Software

A Workshop for CyMAL (Museums Libraries and Archives Wales) held on 6 Nov 2008

Background

Brian Kelly was a speaker and facilitator at a workshop which commissioned by MLA Wales (CyMAL).

The title of the workshop is Sharing Made Simple: A Practical Approach To Social Software. The workshop was held in The Management Centre, University of Wales, College Road, Bangor, LL57 2DG on Wednesday 24th September 2008. (note that this event was originally scheduled for 24 September but due to a clash with another event was re-scheduled).

Abstract

Web 2.0 and the Social Web are terms which are now being used widely. But what do these terms mean? And what, if anything, can Web 2.0 and the Social Web offer to museums, libraries and archives - especially small organisations with limited budgets and technical expertise?

This workshop, which is being organised by UKOLN, a national centre of expertise in digital information management on behalf of CyMAL, will attempt to answer these questions. As well as demystifying the terms and the technologies, the workshop will also address the challenges which institutions may face in seeking to make use of Web 2.0 to support the needs of their users.

Requirements

A networked PC will be required for the speakers.

A total of 15 PCs are available for the participants to use in the hands-on session.

Wiki

A wiki for use by the workshop participants is available.

Note that an RSS feed of recent changes to the wiki is available.
