This UK Presidency conference is to examine the connections between the digitisation of culture and learning. The conference will showcase some developments in the UK, as well as those from across Europe and look at some of the issues involved in the provision of eLearning materials.
The conference sessions and meetings will take place between 10.00-16.00.
There will be a programme of social events for NRG official members including a trip to the Roman Baths and Pump Rooms in Bath. There will also be the opportunity for visits to social attractions.
An invited audience of up to 200 delegates, with approximately 100 from across Europe, mainly from Ministries of Culture and strategic bodies. The UK delegates will be senior civil servants from DfES, DCMS, DTI and representatives of strategic organisations in the cultural sector.
The conference will take place at The Watershed in the historic city of Bristol. The Watershed is situated overlooking the floating harbour in the centre of the City.
The City of Bristol is perfectly situated with good transport links including close proximity to three motorways, two train stations and an international airport with direct flights throughout Europe. The journey from airports in London takes approximately 3 hours and can be expensive, so it is recommended that delegates consider flying direct to Bristol airport, or transferring at Amsterdam.

A taxi to Bristol city centre will cost in the region of £15.
If you travel by air to any of the London airports, you will need to continue your journey to Bristol:
There is a direct coach from London Heathrow to Bristol city centre which takes approximately 2 hours. This leaves from the Heathrow coach station. This is the quickest way into Bristol from London Heathrow.
From Heathrow, we recommend that you take the direct National Express coach from the central bus station direct to Bristol City Centre. This is the quickest way to travel to Bristol from Heathrow taking about 2 hours and costing about £32.
From Gatwick, you can take the Gatwick Express from the airport to Victoria railway station. You will then need to take the Underground from Victoria to Paddington railway station where you can take a direct train to Bristol. This will take you approximately 3 hours and could cost you up to £130.
From Stansted, you can take the Stansted Express from the airport to Liverpool Street railway station. You will then need to take the Underground from Liverpool Street to Paddington station where you can take a direct train to Bristol. This will take you approximately 3 1/2 hours and could cost you up to £130.

There are two mainline train stations in Bristol, we recommend that you travel
to Bristol Temple Meads which is in the city centre.. Trains run twice an hour
from London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads and the journey takes approximately
1 hour and 45 minutes and a standard return ticket will cost £106.

The coach station in Bristol is right in the city centre and there are regular
coaches from many parts of the UK including Heathrow airport.

Road links to Bristol are excellent. The M4 and M5 motorways put both London and Birmingham within a two-hour drive; the M32 allows direct access from the M4 to the heart of the city.
