The concept of the "scholar's workstation" can be interpreted in many ways, as illustrated by the diversity of viewpoints and projects represented at this symposium. This presentation will discuss the implications of the different interpretations we place on 'scholar', on 'workstation' and on 'library'. It will also discuss how scholars from different disciplines, performing different work, will have different needs regarding the library or workstation. In turn, in academic environments the move towards workstation use is having various effects on the scholars themselves.
