Events attended
- Early in January, I travelled down to London to meet with Dick Sargent at the Historic Manuscripts Commission, where we discussed issues related to interoperability and the archival community.
- Also that week, the MODELS 11 workshop took place in Bath. This event was co-organised by UKOLN and the mda, and ably facilitated by UKOLN's Events Co-ordinator, Joy Fraser. Participants were drawn from a range of backgrounds, and represented those with expertise of building controlled terminologies and thesauri, and those from services like the RDN with a stated need for these tools. The workshop went very well, and feedback has been positive. An article reporting the main outcomes will be released on the meeting website and in Ariadne in the next month or so...
- Later in the month, I travelled to San Antonio in Texas. Here, Carrol Lunau (National Library of Canada) and I gave a presentation to the ZIG Tutorial on our work with the Bath Profile. There was also a day of meetings in which the Bath Profile group and the Texas Z39.50 Implementor's Group (who developed the Texas Profile, upon which Bath is closely based) met to thrash out a number of issues. A revised version of the profile will be released during February, incorporating these minor alterations. On the final day in Texas, I attended the latest meeting of the international ZIG
- I also went to the States for a meeting in Washington DC last week. This meeting of the ABC working group was attempting to explore the definition of a common reference model for basic metadata classes. Attendees included representatives of the library, cultural heritage and rights management communities. A report will be coming out of this meeting soon.
