This page is based upon text submitted to the Interoperability Focus Advisory Committee, and represents a number of the main activities in the month of November. The list is not exhaustive, and comments and queries are welcomed.
Events attended
Travel during November was severely hampered by the rail chaos that the rest
of you probably spotted. Still, I managed a few outings.
- at the start of November, I travelled to Washington for a meeting of
CIMI's Executive Committee.
- I also travelled across to the British Library at Boston Spa, to talk
through a couple of pilot projects, and to consider arrangements for the
2001 meeting of the Z39.50 Implementor's Group, which the BL and UKOLN are
organising.
- Later in the month, I travelled to Edinburgh with staff from the
Archaeology Data Service. We were meeting staff at EDINA to discuss the
feasibility of linking Ordnance Survey mapping at EDINA with resources from
the ADS catalogue.
- Also in November, we had an Advisory Committee meeting. Minutes are on the
way, and I'm sure those of you who made it would like to join me in thanking
Joy Fraser at UKOLN for picking the venue and, most especially, for her
dinner choice!
- The next day, several of you attended the Interoperability at the Coalface
event. Over 100 delegates attended, and the feedback forms I have seen were
overwhelmingly congratulatory.
- At the end of November, I travelled to Edinburgh for a meeting of the
Metadata for Education Group. We have now agreed
our Concord.
Signatories now include UKOLN, SCRAN, Resource, UfI, SUfI, ADS, mda, GEM, and there are some other major ones on the way. I would ask all of you to take a look, and to consider signing.
