This page is based upon text submitted to the Interoperability Focus Advisory Committee, and represents a number of the main activities in the month of January. The list is not exhaustive, and comments and queries are welcomed.
Events attended
- I travelled to Madrid for the launch of a European dimension to the
activities of IMS, a US-based international organisation producing
specifications for learning resource creation, description and management
(www.imsproject.org/). Around seventy people were there, mainly from Europe.
Kevin Riley, who is known to some of you from his work at Fretwell Downing,
is to be the head of this new effort, which will seek to meet local European
requirements (multilinguality, different educational systems, etc), and take
a lead on some IMS work where Europe is clearly ahead (mobile applications,
etc.).
MEG Concord
- released last month, the Concord now has 42 signatories. There's still plenty of space for signatures from some of your organisations...!
Staffing
- The big news this month is the arrival of Pete Johston as Interoperability
Research Officer. Pete has already introduced himself to you, and I'm sure
he'll get to meet many of you in the next few months...
