This page is based upon text submitted to the Interoperability Focus Advisory Committee, and represents a number of the main activities in the month of January. The list is not exhaustive, and comments and queries are welcomed.
Events attended
- At the start of February, Paul attended the penultimate meeting of the
steering group for the UK National Union Catalogue. There will be a
Concertation Day at the end of February to gather community input to the final report.
- Paul spent a weekend at the start of the month in Madeira, attending
meetings of the Dublin Core Advisory Committee. The meeting looked at
reorganisation of the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative in order to make it
more effective, and to allow it a degree of independence from OCLC. Makx
Dekkers, of PwC, has been appointed as project manager to move this forward.
- Paul attended the first meeting of a steering group for the cluster of
DNER projects involved in enhancing the outputs of the existing JISC Data
Centres for Learning and Teaching.
- Paul and Pete attended a meeting in Bath related to the ongoing UKOLN
review. Paul additionally met with members of the review team in Hull.
- Paul attended an interesting meeting on the DNER Architecture in London.
This study is being conducted by UKOLN, and the meeting was intended to gain
input and comment from the broader community. The report from this study is
due soon, and will make interesting reading.
- Pete attended a consultation workshop held by the Collection of Historical
and Contemporary Census Data and Related Materials (CHCC) project in London
at the end of January.
Other
- Pete has been familiarising himself with the activities of Interoperability Focus in general, and the e-learning issues and the work of MEG in particular. He has been exploring the use of the DESIRE metadata
registry for a small number of schemas/application profiles for educational resources.
MEG Concord
- released in December, the Concord now has 43 signatories. There's still plenty of space for signatures from some of your organisations...!
