This page is based upon text submitted to the Interoperability Focus Advisory Committee, and represents a number of the main activities in the month of July. The list is not exhaustive, and comments and queries are welcomed.
Events attended
- Pete and Paul both attended the Colloquium on Emerging Information
Architectures
(www.ukoln.ac.uk/interop-focus/activities/events/architectures/) organised
by the Interoperability Focus and hosted by the Office of the e-Envoy in
London. A report is in preparation.
- Pete and Paul both attended a workshop on "XML and Educational Metadata"
organised by
LITC and the Easel project, and gave presentations on a number of topics.
These are available from our presentations page as usual.
- Paul travelled to Paris to participate in a meeting on the establishment
of a database/databases to hold information on digitisation projects
underway across Europe (brea.culture.fr/nddr/). This meeting is the first of
a French Ministry of Culture-led working group following up on one of the
Lund Action Plan work items
(www.cordis.lu/ist/ka3/digicult/en/eeurope.html).
- Pete attended the latest meeting of MEG, and updated attendees on his
ongoing work with the MEG registry.
- Paul organised and attended the International Seminar on National Digital
Cultural Content Creation Strategies
(http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/interop-focus/activities/events/digitisation-strategies/) at Tate Modern in London. The event was jointly organised with CIMI
and Resource, and attracted senior decision makers from Canada, the USA,
Europe, and New Zealand, as well as arousing interest amongst others who
were unable to make the selected dates at short notice. The meeting
identified a raft of areas on which international collaboration appeared
both feasible and valuable. A report is in preparation, and we hope to meet
again early in 2002 to gauge progress on the current work items, and to
examine how best to proceed organisationally.
Publications
- Pete submitted a paper on interoperability for publication as part of the
"Library and Information Briefings" series published by LITC.
