This short paper, which was been accepted for publication at the WWW 2006 conference, considers personalization metadata standards that can be used to enable individuals to access and use appropriate resources. It considers two approaches being developed in the library and Web worlds and highlights some of the potential interoperability challenges which need to be addressed. The paper concludes by arguing for greater dialogue between these two communities.
