Four main types of metadata:

• Technical metadata
  • Recording technical details about the original hardware and software environment to support preservation strategies
• Rights management metadata
  • Recording intellectual property rights ownership, deposit agreements, etc.
• Intellectual preservation metadata
  • Preserving integrity and authenticity
• Resource discovery metadata
