Digital PreservationWeb-archiving feasibility study for the JISC and the Wellcome Trust |
UKOLN has produced a feasibility study on Web-archiving on behalf of the Joint Information Systems Committee of the UK higher and further education funding councils (JISC) and the Library of the Wellcome Trust. It is accompanied by a study of the legal issues of Web archiving by Andrew Charlesworth of the Centre for IT and Law at the University of Bristol.
Both the JISC and the Wellcome Library have a shared interest in the area of Web archiving and intitiated this joint study as a basis for developing their institutional strategies and future programmes. Both organisations recognised that many of the issues they would need to assess were generic and could be evaluated through a shared study. As members of the Digital Preservation Coalition, both organisations are committed to collaboration between members to advance a common agenda and interests in digital preservation.
The Wellcome Library Web Archiving Project (of which this study forms one part) has been shortlisted for the Pilgrim Trust Digital Preservation Award sponsored by the Digital Preservation Coalition. This new award recognises leadership and achievement in digital preservation. The results will be announced at an event to be held at the British Library on the 22 June 2004.
