• national authentication infrastructure (e.g. ATHENS) should

  • integrate academic & commercial sources
  • supply local & central management controls
  • offer bridge to future standards/protocols
  • flexibly incorporate user attributes & resources metadata
  • use architecture that permits levels of resource access granularity
