Michael Lesk manages a computer science research effort at Bellcore. He received the PhD in Chemical Physics in 1969, and is best known for writing such Unix utilities as tbl, lex, and uucp. He was Senior Visiting Fellow of the British Library in 1987 and is currently Visiting Professor in the Computer Science department at University College London. In 1994 he received the "Flame" award from the Usenix Association for lifetime achievement. Mr Lesk does research in information retrieval, computer networks, electronic information systems, and multimedia technology.
