Job Description
1. Purpose
To manage the establishment of two new websites, for the International e-Framework for Education and Research (http://www.e-framework.org) and for the JISC Information Environment’s ‘Technical Foundations Site’ (a new site to encompass information about technical standards, architectures and approaches relevant to the JISC Information Environment).
2. Reporting Structure
The post-holder will be a member of the Software and Systems Team and will report to the Technical Manager.
3. Tasks and Responsibilities
General
- To lead and coordinate the redevelopment of http://www.e-framework.org after consultation with project stakeholders.
- To initiate, plan and implement the delivery of a new JISC Information Environment ‘Technical Foundations’ website in line with the programme’s strategic objectives
- To scope, research and produce functional requirements for a new content management system for the e-Framework site
- To coordinate the migration of the e-Framework’s Knowledge-base to the new content management system
- To implement the preferred CMS in collaboration with UKOLN’s in-house developers & systems support staff
- To ensure that both sites provide accurate information and are promoted effectively to their intended external audiences.
- To ensure that both sites are designed appropriately so their content, structure and navigation are user-friendly, accessible and meet the needs of their audiences.
- To ensure that both websites are marketed effectively to the HE, developer, and research communities.
- To produce project documentation including requirements gathering and content inventories.
- To manage communications between various stakeholders and act as a main point of contact for both websites.
- To employ and supervise the work of temporary and contract workers where appropriate.
- To plan, write and commission clear and engaging web copy for both sites including sourcing images and other media
- To present complex information to a variety of audiences both technical and non-technical.
- To produce reports and updates to the Software and Systems Team Leader on the progress of each project.
- To be a member of relevant internal and external committees and working groups.
- To report internally and externally on progress in all of the above work areas.
- To carry out other relevant activities as indicated by the Director.
4. Contacts Outside UKOLN and the University
To represent the projects at various external locations, and travel as required to UK and international locations (including travel to Australia).
