UKOLN AULIC 2002 - 21 June 2002



Brian Kelly gave a talk on UKOLN: What We Are; What We Do at the AULIC (Avon Universities Libraries in Co-operation) 2002 conference which was held at Bath Spa University College (Newton Park) on 21th June 2002. The talk took place from 3:30-4:00.

Abstract

What is UKOLN? What does it do? How is it relevant to library staff? In this presentation Brian Kelly will describe UKOLN and outline some of its activities which will be of interest to AULIC members. This will include a description of UKOLN's dissemination activities, including its e-journals; an example of how UKOLN's research actities in the area of metadata are being used to support its ejournals; and how UKOLN helps to progress the development of new standards and technologies through organising events and producing demonstrator projects.

Biography

Brian Kelly is UK Web Focus - an advisory post on Web issues for the UK's Higher and Further Education communities. Brian is based at UKOLN - a national centre for digital information management, located at the University of Bath.

Brian has been involved in Web development and support activities since 1993, initially as an early adopter of the Web while based at the University of Leeds. He then worked as a network trainer at Netskills, University of Newcastle. He moved to his current post at UKOLN in October 1996.

Brian is a regular columnist on Web issues in the Ariadne e-journal and is the project manager for the Cultivate Interactive e-journal. He has written articles and papers and given presentations at a wide range of events, including the international World Wide Web conferences.
