- Workshop
- Date and Time
- 10th November 2009 from 13.30-17.30
- Abstract
The summary for this half-day session is:
"This session focusses on the open data and services that can make up a 'University API' - taken from research, admin, marketing and teaching systems. The session will develop ideas for new types of services that could be piloted, and there potential uses in applications".
We can expect to hear examples of innovative applications which demonstrate the potential of APIs to support University business processes.
But the reaction from managers and policy makers may well be "WTF?". From some there may be concerns that such an approach detracts from mature and widely deployed systems which are already in place. Others may have a feeling of deja vu: is this the latest technological fix which, once again, promises to solve all our problems but will inevitably fail to live up to the hype?
This session will provide an opportunity to address the reservations which some may have to greater use of University APIs and explore ways in which such concerns may be addressed.
