Using Social Media to Enhance Your Research Activities
Brian Kelly will present a paper on Using Social Media to Enhance Your Research Activities at the Social Media in Social Research conference being organised by SRA (Social Research Organisation).
The conference will be held on 24th June 2013 in the Bloomsbury Suite, Friends Meeting House, 173-177 Euston Road London. The talk will take place from 11.15-11.45.
Abstract (Brief)
In this paper the author summarises the benefits which can be gained from use of social media to support research activities. The paper is based on personal experiences in using social media to engage with fellow researchers, meet new collaborators and co-authors and enhance awareness and impact of research papers.
Biography
Brian Kelly works at UKOLN at the University of Bath. In his role as UK Web Focus he has interests in identifying ways of using innovative Web developments to support institutional activities across the UK's higher education sector. Brian has been the chair or co-chair of the organising committee for the Institutional Web Management Workshop (IWMW) series, an event that he launched in 1997 and that continues to support the development of the institutional Web management community of practice.
He has long-standing interests in the preservation of Web resources and is continuing work in this area, which includes the preservation of content and services hosted in the Cloud.
Brian has been working with UKOLN/CETIS JISC Observatory activity which aims to identify early technology trends in order to ensure that the JISC Community can make appropriate plans for managing the implications of technological developments.
Brian has been an invited speaker at conferences in Norway, Sweden, Singapore, Taiwan and Australia. Closer to home, he is the programme chair for the IWMW 2013 event which will be held at the University of Bath on 26-28 June.
