Exploiting The Social Aspects Of Web 2.0 In HE Institutions

About

Brian Kelly gave a talk on Exploiting The Social Aspects Of Web 2.0 In HE Institutions at the University of Nottingham on 25th April 2008. Further information is available on the Web 2.0 Summit Day Web site.

Abstract

In March 2007 Brian Kelly gave a talk on Deployment Strategies For Web 2.0 which explored the ways in which Web 2.0 technologies, such as blogs, wikis, syndication, etc. can be used to enhance the services provided within higher educational institutions. The relevance of such technologies is now becoming widely accepted. But now the debate has moved on. The sector has seen much interest in the potential of social networking services such as Facebook and micro-blogging services such as Twitter. But such services aren't installed and managed locally. And aren't they intended for social purposes? This talk on "Exploiting The Social Aspects Of Web 2.0 In HE Institutions" will explore how institutions can respond to the opportunities and threats posed by social services and the 'network as the platform'.
