Brian Kelly gave a talk on "What Uses for New Digital Techologies?" at the "CILIP Digital Information 2009 conference" on "What Future For Digital Information: order or Anarchy" which was held at King's Place, London on Tuesday 17^th November 2009 from 14.15-14.45 .

Abstract

Although a wide range of Web 2.0 services are available, how are these being used by librarians and information professionals? Do they act as replacements for established tools (such as email) or do they provide new opportunities? This session will attempt to answer these questions.

Biographical Details

Brian Kelly is UK Web Focus, a post funded by the JISC and the MLA which advises the UK's higher and further education communities and museums, libraries and archives sector on standards, emerging technologies and best practices for use of the Web. Brian works at UKOLN, a national centre of expertise in digital information management, which is based at the University of Bath.

Brian became involved in the Web in its infancy when he helped set up a Web site in January 1993 whilst working at the University of Leeds. He moved to his current job in 1996.

Brian's areas of interest includes Web 2.0, Web standards and Web accessibility. He makes use of a range of Web 2.0 services including his UK Web Focus blog which he uses as his main user engagement and dissemination channel.
