The following talk was given at the
Internet Librarian International

Title:
QA For Web Sites
Abstract
As Web sites become more important in providing richer and more sophisticated
digital library services and products it is critical that quality assurance procedures
are deployed in order to ensure that services work correctly in a heterogeneous
environment. Adoption of open standards and deployment of best practices can
help but there is still a need to ensure that development work complies with
standards and best practices.
This talk will describe approaches to the development of Quality Assurance
processes and a quality culture. The talk is based on work of "QA Focus"
which is addressing the technical interoperability of digital library projects
funded under the JISC's 5/99 programme.
- Objectives Of The Session
- By the end of the session, audience members will be aware of the
importance of standards in developing interoperable digital library services and
of the difficulties in ensuring that digital libraries comply with standards and
best practices. The audience will see the role that quality assurance procedures
can play and how the development of a self-assessment toolkit can support the
development of digital library services.
