QA Focus in-house QA: Audits May 2003 Report

May 2003 Audit

An Audit was made of the QA Focus site on Tuesday 13th May 2003.

HTML Validation

The ,rvalidate option was run over the entire QA Focus site from the points listed below:

Comments

Based on these findings the areas audited have been found to be valid HTML.

Exceptions: There are problems with the News Blog divs. The ,rvalidate tool only covers 100 pages but this problem has been resolved by using the starting points mentioned above.

Note: ,rvalidate tool cannot currently be used on the database area of the site.

CSS Validation

The ,cssvalidate tool was run over the QA Focus stylesheets from the points listed below:

The check was carried out using Internet Explorer and Netscape. This would cover all the stylesheets in use for viewing information online. The print stylesheets was manually checked from the WC3 site.

Results

Site uses valid CSS.

Comments

Exceptions: This form of validating does not cover inline style sheets. The toolkit area of the site uses inline stylesheets so was checked manually.

The ,rchecklink option was run over the entire QA Focus site from the points listed below:

Results

10 broken (404 error message) links were found on the site. The majority were to the JISC Web site and were caused by a misconfigured server at JISC.

Comments

This shows the limitation of testing tools. Some have a short 'time out' time and others are blocked by robots.txt files. Broken links will also be shown if a site happens to be down at that moment in time.
