A pilot survey of the compliance with accessibility guidelines of the home pages of 6 JISC 5/99 projects in Scotland has been carried out. The survey makes use of the Bobby compliance checking tool.
A summary of the findings is given in the following table.
Institution | A Compliant? | AA Compliant? | P1 Errors | P2 Errors | Comments | Try It | |
1 | FAILTE | Y | Y | 0 | 0 | This appears to be an excellent example of a HTML compliant entry point which passes an automated accessiblity test. The page itself also has a pleasing design and is small and quick to download. The page validated to AAA guidelines. | A Check AA Check AAA Check |
2 | XGrain | Y | Y | 0 | 0 | A Check AA Check |

Please note the following:
Rather than simply present projects with this information it is intended to first raise awareness of the issues by providing an article on the importance of standards compliance. If time and logistics permit it is hoped to raise these issues in a workshop and then provide access to the automated surveys.
