    Details of the The future is hybrid: libraries in the 21st century conferences held in two locations on two days: 20th February 2001, at the Geoffrey Manton Building, Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester; and in the Wolfson Suite, Edinburgh University Library, Edinburgh University, George Square, Edinburgh. on the 27th February 2001. Reports on these events are due to appear in Ariadne issue 27 (March 2001).

    Ariadne 26 features an illustrated report on the first of the two CLUMPS conferences held this spring. Plus Peter Stubley of the RIDING project supplies the text of his closing remarks at the same event (Goldsmiths College, 3rd March). A number of other eLib related reports appear in the same issue.

    A report (plus powerpoint presentations, including one by Chris Rusbridge) from the JISC Town Meeting held in London on 16th December 1999 is available at: http://www.jisc.ac.uk/pub99/c05_99_mtg.html. The meeting was organised to further discuss approaches to the Distributed National Electronic Resource. Plus an outline of Tom Franklin's presentation from the meeting (on the JCIEL Circular 7/99 - Managed Learning Environments).

    IMS concertation day, organised by the eLib Programme Office and held at the Policy Studies Institute in London. A presentation given by the UK IMS centre at this event is available as a Microsoft Powerpoint file and also in HTML format.

  • 22nd March 1999
    Library Resource Sharing and Discovery: Catalogues for the Future. A one-day workshop presented by the eLib CLUMP Projects at: The British Library, St. Pancras, London. The RIDING project has collected the conference presentations: this page is available at: http://www.shef.ac.uk/~riding/current/conf.html. There is also an Ariadne article by Jane Harrington and Juliet Dyer on CLUMPs evaluation issues, based on a presentation to the workshop.

  • 2-4 December 1999
    The eLib "Information Ecologies" conference in York. The conference report contains most of the presentations in Powerpoint format, plus the text of Jim Michalko's keynote presentation. An Ariadne "At the Event" report on the "Information Ecologies" conference can be found in Ariadne 19. The original conference programme is still available.

  • 15-16 December 1998
    The HyLiFe project coordinated a conference in London entitled Integrate, Co-operate, Innovate, which explored the implications and impacts of eLib Hybrid Library and Clumps developments.

  • October 1998
    An article on Realizing the Hybrid Library by Stephen Pinfield, Jonathan Eaton, Catherine Edwards, Rosemary Russell, Astrid Wissenburg and Peter Wynne appeared in the October issue of D-lib magazine

  • August 1998
    Chris Rusbridge, Director of the UK eLib Programme, wrote a comprehensive overview of the history and direction of the UK eLib Programme for the July/August issue D-lib magazine, Towards the Hybrid Library


Several eLib project run regular workshops or training sessions. In addition, many eLib projects present either the interim or final results of their project, or demonstrate their deliverables, at (mostly UK) conferences, events and workshops.

To get announcements of eLib-related events at the earliest opportunity, you are urged to join the lis-elib mailing list, which is used as the primary publicity media for said events (Other eLib related lists can be found on the mailing list page).

Projects that run regular events

Projects which run training workshops on a regular basis, usually in different locations around the UK.

  • Netskills, A project from the training and awareness programme area, run a large series of workshops on various aspects of using the Web, HTML authoring and Web-based publishing.
  • SOSIG, the Social Sciences Gateway project from the Access to Network Resources section of the programme, runs regular workshops for Social Science researchers, academics, librarians and support staff.
