Previously Collections Manager for the Archaeology Data Service, I now hold the post of Interoperability Focus at UKOLN, funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) of the Higher Education Funding Councils and the Library & Information Commission.
Interoperability Focus is a wide-ranging post, which aims to demonstrate and facilitate the evolution of an environment in which users are able to interact with a range of resources drawn from communities such as libraries, the cultural heritage sphere, and archives. This interaction should be as seamless and transparent as possible.
Key to this vision is work on metadata such as the Dublin Core, indecs and IMS, facilitating technologies such as Z39.50, and consensus-building processes within and across the individual communities such as CIMI.
