Aims Of The Web Site

- The aims of the Web site are:
- Target Audience
- The Web site is intended primarily for participants at the IWMW 2002 workshop,
contributors to the workshop (including speakers, facilitators, members of the
programme and organising committee, etc.) In addition members of the institutional
Web management community are likely to find resources on the Web site of interest.
Architecture Of The Web Site
The architecture of the Web site is summarised below. Please note that this
describes the architecture that was implemented and is not necessarily an example
of best practices (as time and resource constraints meant it was not possible to
make use of more server-side management facilities).

- The Web site is hosted on a Unix system running the Apache Web server.
Resources on the Web site are managed as individual files.
The Web site aims to be XHTML 1.0 compliant. In addition a small amount of CSS
is used.
- Authoring Tools
- The HTML-Kit HTML editor is used
to create and edit files.
Checking Processes
- Links
- The Xenu Link Sleuth
software is used to check for broken links on the Web site.
In addition, since 10 September 2002, typing ,linkcheck after a
URL on any page on the workshop Web site will run the W3C's link checking software
on the page concerned. Why not

In addition, since 16 September 2002, typing ,rlinkcheck after a
URL on any page on the workshop Web site will run the W3C's link checking software
on the page concerned and recursivelly across other linked pages beneath it. Why not

- HTML Compliance
- Each page on the Web site contains an XHTML 1.0 Valid icon. Clicking on the
icon will run the W3C's HTML validation software and give up-to-date information
on the compliance of the page.
The CSE HTML Validator Pro
software is used to check the HTML compiance of all pages on the Web site.

- The spell-checker in the HTML-Kit
HTML editor is used to check the spelling of pages on the Web site.
- Accessibility
- The downloadable Bobby Java application is used to check the accessibility
of the Web site.
The workshop home page contains a Bobby Approved icon. Clicking on the
icon will run CAST's Bobby checking software and give up-to-date information
on the compliance of the page.
QA Processes
- Procedures
- The checking tools listed above are currently run on an ad hoc basis.
- User Feedback
- User feedback is encouraged. Comments will be acknowledged. If a change is
required in order to improve the service and the modification is not too
difficult or time-consuming to make, it will be done.
Responses To Problems
A list of known problems will be kept. Reasons problems have not been fixed
will be provided.
